Debenhams Blue Cross Sale – Now On

November 10, 2009

Over this last year people have been thinking twice before buying that item – it was essential last year but this hmmm maybe I’ll leave it for the moment.

There is no doubt sales in retail stores will be down and that is why we see a lot more of them promoting their businesses by way of Sales. Take Debenhams for instance, they are the masters of sales promotion – they even gave their sale a name The “Blue Cross Sale” and today everyone in the UK knows the name.

There are 1300 searches every month on Google for the term “Blue Cross Sale” so that tells you just how successfully they have promoted their sales. Today, most folks in the UK have heard of the Debenhams Sale.

The sales promotion is not a new approach to attract custom there have been many variations over the last decode not least the BOGOF “buy one get one free” and today it is very common to see “three for the price of two” and another variation is “buy three get the lowest priced item free”. There is also the discount approach that offers the customer an amount or percentage off the usual price, you know the sort of thing, 10% OFF today only! This create urgency because the offer only lasts for one day – come back tomorrow and it will be gone.

Other types of promotion include:
FREE DELIVERY – saves you having to humph that fridge freezer.

FREE CASE WITH EVERY iPod – added value.

I was also taught to offer product incentives rather than discounts which come straight off the bottom line i.e. 10% off say a $40 item is $4 less profit – end of story. Whereas – FREE CASE WITH EVERY iPod – still makes you a nice little profit.

So, whatever incentive you offer we hope it is as successful as the Debenhams Sale – which is also accessible online – CLICK HERE
